The Ugg boot company has an ugly history of mistreating the sheep it uses in the process of making its shoes. On the Ugg website, an entire tab is dedicated to "Animal Welfare," where they claim to only source sheepskin and sheep wool from humane suppliers. But this is a false narrative because Ugg is known to abuse sheep throughout the production process for their sheepskin.
Ugg uses sheep wool to line many of their products and videos and photographs have surfaced that show Ugg workers kicking, throwing, and hitting the sheep during shearing. Some sheep suffer wounds so brutal that they can hardly walk. Others are killed when they are not cooperative during the shearing process.
It is true that sheep can be more comfortable without their heavy wool coats. But Ugg employees are known to aggressively shear the coats, causing many cuts and leaving open wounds. There are many synthetic alternatives to sheepskin which are equally comfortable and economical. These alternatives would not brutalize sheep and would allow Ugg to actually follow through with its promise to create shoes in a way that is ethical and just.
Not only does Ugg use sheep wool in their products, but they also use sheep skin. They claim that this is sourced from humane suppliers, but the videos do not show humane treatment of these animals. If they're treated this horribly while they're alive, they are certainly not being slaughtered in an ethical way.
Sign this petition now to tell Ugg that consumers will not stand for more hurt or brutalized sheep. Demand Ugg remove all sheepskin from their products now!
