Help stop needless cruelty: Say NO to KFC chicken.
Hello, my name is Chintushig Gereltod, and I am an 8th grade student at ISB, in the capital city of Thailand, Bangkok. In my Humanities class, I have learned about 'ethical consumerism'. And now, to help the environment be more ethical, I want start by ending animal cruelty at a specific company, and the company goes by a name of KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken).
More than 1 billion chickens are tortured and killed each year for KFC, and the KFC executives don’t even try to lift a finger to change their suppliers' practices. Chickens are captured, and tortured in slaughterhouses and factory-farms of KFC all around the world, for more than half of their lives or for some, their whole lives.
The legs and wings of the chickens usually break, because they are produced to be too top-heavy and because the workers uncaringly thrust them into transport crates and shackles. The throats of the chickens are slit and the animals are dropped into tanks of scalding-hot water to eradicate their feathers, often while they are still sentient or able to feel pain.
KFC gives permission to the factory-farm and slaughterhouse workers handle live chickens, and because of that, many of the animals end up being viciously abused. They tear the heads off the live birds, they spray paint their faces, they spit tobacco into their eyes, and they ferociously stomp on either their bodies or their heads. This discovery was made more than two years after KFC guaranteed that it was taking animal welfare seriously.
If the executives of KFC treated dogs, cows or cats the same way the chickens killed for their restaurants are treated, they would have already been thrown in jail. I must admit, that we must eat meat, and some must come from chickens, but how is it fair for them if they are brutally tormented before their deaths? Shouldn't they have lived a nice, peaceful life before they pass away quietly and without any pain? Isn't it more ethical to give them more room and freedom, let them enjoy life? Wouldn't their lives be that much richer before their time comes?
You can help to stop the madness of the abuse the chickens take before their unorthodox and uncalled for deaths. By signing this petition, and taking the pledge of not eating products or food from the KFC restaurants, we can help KFC be more ethical, and treat the chickens better before they pass away. Maybe they realize, that what they are doing to the chickens right now is wrong, and may change their ways of taking care of the chickens. The more, the merrier. So then KFC may not make any profit off their products, which may lead them to change their ways and adopt the ‘Animal Care Standards’, switch to controlled-atmosphere killing (CAK), switch to mechanized chicken gathering and make all welfare principles translucent and provable. Until then, say 'no'. Please unite with Pamela Anderson, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Sir Paul McCartney and uncountable other generous people worldwide by not eating at KFC.
