Far too often women are not encouraged to run for office, or are too discouraged to run due to the lack of representation. Research shows that increasing women's representation in electoral politics has a positive effect, not only socially but economically, too.
Over 100 years since the election of the first woman MP, still only 30% of Canadian MPs are women - a record high. In the next federal election, we want to see at least 40% women and gender diverse folks elected to office – we need our Parliament to reflect the Canadian public. It's time for gender parity on Parliament Hill.
