Stop selling animals at Harrods

Stop Harrods trading in pets at its London Store
Harrods sells live animals including puppies and kittens at its Knightsbridge store. They are legally within their rights to do this. However, this is a far from ideal way in which to sell animals to owners. Unlike buying a puppy from a reputable breeder, there are no serious check performed on the potential owner. There is no opportunity to see the pups with their mother over time. How many puppies or kittens are acquired from Harrods either though a whim, or via a well-intentioned purchase to 'rescue' them from the shop? How many of these puppies bought then end up in the care of rescue, or even at the pound, when the owners either no longer care or can no longer cope?
This petition is not anti-breeding. It merely seeks to demonstrate that we believe that animals should not be sold in this way, with so few checks. Harrods provides a good retail service - it's time for this shop to stop tarnishing its otherwise good reputation by trading in animals.
