The aftermath of the recent U.S. presidential election has unleashed
a tidal wave of hate-fueled harassment targeting women and people of color online. Yet major platforms like Meta and TikTok are failing to protect users from these dangerous attacks, allowing racism, sexism, and violence to run rampant.
Sign the petition to demand Meta and TikTok take immediate, decisive action to regulate their platforms and keep vulnerable groups safe!Since the election results were revealed, women - especially Black, Latina, and Asian women - have been
bombarded with disturbing messages. Examples include proclaiming: "Your body, my choice" and "Dumb whore," echoing the rhetoric of high-profile figures who celebrate hate. One particularly prominent bigoted influencer, Nick Fuentes, celebrated the election results by saying: "Hey, bitch, we control your bodies! Guess what, guys win again."
And these are just the public messages. Many women and people of color - including children - have been taking screenshots of
private or direct messages they're receiving that are even more disturbing.
Some Black children have received text messages that specifically target them by name and
threaten to bring them to plantations where they would be forced into slavery to "pick cotton."These messages aren't just words; they're a form of violence, pushing women offline and silencing their voices. This surge in online harassment is also happening against a backdrop of systemic harm.
Hate crimes jumped nearly 20% during Trump's previous presidency, and the current online harassment is a chilling continuation of this trend.
If left unchecked, such toxic environments online will escalate into more harm offline.
Platforms like Meta and TikTok must prioritize the safety of their users. These companies have the tools to limit hate speech and harassment, but
so far, they've chosen profits over protection. We need robust moderation policies, stricter enforcement, and enhanced safety features NOW.
This isn't unprecedented. Countries like Germany already hold tech companies accountable with laws that require the removal of hate speech. The U.S. tech giants can and must do better.
Every person deserves to feel safe online. By signing this petition, you can help send a clear message: we will not tolerate platforms that allow hate to thrive. Urge Meta and TikTok to step up and create safer digital spaces for everyone.
