On June 12, 2003, following a cabinet meeting, the Romanian Government announced that in Romania, between 1940-1945, no HOLOCAUST took place.
Bucharest June 12, 2003 In todays weekly Governmental meeting, the Romanian Government approved the Cooperation Agreement between the National Archives of Romania and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. To quote from the official Government press release:
The discussion on this subject brought forward the final position of the Romanian Government : this Government encourages the research regarding the Holocaust phenomena in Europe, including the documents of this type found in the Romanian archives it is strongly underlined the fact that in Romania between 1940-1945 there was no Holocaust.
MCA welcomes the announced cooperation between the National Archives of Romania and The US Holocaust Memorial Museum.
However, MCA Romania must express its firm disagreement and its deep concern caused by todays official Governmental communiqué, which denies the existence of The Holocaust in Romania.
MCA Romania expresses its deep concern caused by the Governments official point of view regarding the crimes committed against the Romanian Jews during WWII. This point of view is serving the purposes of the Holocaust deniers in Romania, who are also the same cynical individuals who are acting, very vehemently, for preserving the memory of Marshal Ion Antonescu as the national hero.
MCA Romania urges the Romanian Government, in its letter addressed to the Romanian Prime Minister (attached to this message), to reconsider its openly expressed denial of The Holocaust in Romania. This is an essential and basic step towards the preservation of the memory of the hundreds of thousands of Romanian Jews exterminated during the WWII.
