In the absence of Welfare Rules Nepals Safari Elephants face ongoing abuse. The privately owned elephants are overworked, overloaded and the victims of regular beatings. Many suffer from Tuberculosis and some are fully blind. During busy times they are forced to do up to 8 trips into the jungle carrying 4 adults on their back. They work every day of the week, even during the hot midday hours. When off duty the elephants are fully chained into immobilization, fail to receive nutritious food or a chance to express their natural behaviours.
