In 2011, Congress delisted wolves from the endangered species list in five states, including Idaho. Shortly thereafter, hunters proudly posted graphic online images of their wolf trapping achievements, including a wolf's paw pinched in a metal trap and a hurt wolf suffering in bloody snow.
Despite the public outcry over trapping practices, Idaho has proposed an amendment that would add the right to trap animals to the state's constitution. The measure will be on state ballots by November 2012.
If passed, the amendment would permanently give Idaho hunters the right to torture animals to death through the use of painful traps, including foot hold traps. Please sign the petition to urge the Idaho State Legislature to remove trapping from the proposed amendment.
To: Idaho State Legislature
We, the undersigned, are writing to express our concern for the pro-trapping amendment scheduled to appear on state ballots in November 2012.
As you know, in 2011, Congress delisted wolves from the endangered species list in five states, including Idaho. Shortly thereafter, hunters proudly posted graphic online images of their wolf trapping achievements, including a wolf's paw pinched in a metal trap and a hurt wolf suffering in bloody snow. We found these photos and attitudes deplorable, and are disturbed that the pro-trapping amendment will allow these sadistic practices to continue indefinitely.
We disagree with the notion that humans should have the right to trap animals, especially through painful methods such as foot hold traps. There are less painful methods to control animal populations. We urge you to remove trapping from the proposed Idaho amendment. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
