CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The manager of the Roane County Animal Shelter can give residents 119 reasons to donate to the facility.
Sandy Bush said the tiny shelter recently helped out a county resident who wanted to "relinquish" a bevy of cats. Shelter workers rounded up the felines in crates and brought them to the Spencer shelter.
The facility isn't equipped to deal with the cats for a long stretch. Two to three cats are being housed in each portable crate, and Bush said supplies and adoptions are needed now more than ever.
"Our main focus is to help these cats and get them adopted," she said. "There are just a handful of little kittens. The rest are young adults from one year and older."
She said little about the cats' former owners, except that they were "overwhelmed" and voluntarily gave up the animals.
