Tell GOP Contenders: Waterboarding is Torture!
- by: Audrey Arthur
- recipient: Herman Cain, Michele Bachmaan and Mitt Romney
Waterboarding is torture. There should be no further discussion.
However, three Republican candidates for president have voiced their approval of the use of torture that was heavily used during the Spanish Inquisition.
Herman Cain demonstrated his approval for the use of waterboarding, which simulates the drowning of a bounded victim, at the CBS News/National Journal debate November 12.
Cain described torture as an "enhanced interrogation technique."
Michele Bachmann also voiced support claiming that waterboarding has provided useful information to the armed forces.
Though not stated during the debate, Mitt Romney later expressed his support mirroring the "enhanced interrogation technique" argument.
Waterboarding can cause serious and permanent physical, mental and psychological injury to victims and should have no position in a country that calls for liberty and freedom.
Tell GOP contenders that water boarding is torture!
We the undersigned would like to show our opposition to your position on the use of torture, namely: waterboarding.
The use of waterboarding has time and time again proven as an illogical tool in gaining information while also being absolutely immoral.
To define waterboarding as a proposed tool of the United States would be an insult to the freedom and moral integrity that our county stands for.
We ask that you retract your statements on the use of waterboarding as an interrogation tool and continue your campaign with the position that waterboarding is, and will continue to be, an illegal method of torture.
We thank you for taking the time out to take our comments and concerns into serious consideration.
