100K dogs die each year from riding in truck beds. Demand that owners transport dogs with a proper carrier or placed them in the backseat of the truck where they can be safe.

As I wad driving to work, I noticed a pickup truck in front of me had a beautiful German Shepherd bouncing from one side of the truck bed to the other. I was appalled to see the poor thing so scared to death. The poor dog struggled to maintain his balance to keep from flying out of the truck. This happens all the time and has caused the lives of many animals and also several accidents on the road. These was reported to the Humane Society, but they said it is legal in Los Angeles as long as the animal is restrained. However, transporting any animal on the back of any open vehicle is an accident waiting to happen even if they are tied up. One quick turn, a sudden stop or unexpected bump in the road, and your dog can be catapulted into traffic. This can result in chocking, painful broken bones, bruises and road rash, and even death. There are several options to make sure the animal travels safe and comfortable. Demand that animals travel in secure padded crates or in trucks that have toppers on them to prevent entanglement and to ensure that the animal won't choke.
