STOP THE ABUSE AT MONKEY TOWN / SOMERSET, SOUTH AFRICA

Monkey town seems like any normal animal game reserve/zoo for people all over the world to come visit and to enjoy the surroundings and the animals that live there mainly primates, to enjoy and then go away feeling happy that they have bonded with mother natures animals and been welcomed by it's friendly staff.
Sadly this is not the case going back now some years there was a shocking amount of abuse that was being uncovered at monkey town, monkeys found dead, in distress, suffering from mental illness, and chimps that "quote" had the same behavioural patterns of those that would be found in bio medical research facilities. This is just the tip of the ice berg to there is physical abuse by "some" of the keepers there from chasing the monkeys with loud dangerous machinery, beatings, and murder, and this is a "people friendly animal zoo/enclosure.
There are major other factors to monkey town that still are not being addressed, from bad animal husbandry to none at all, not vet care to neglect and pure abuse that leaves these animals in distress, enclosures are left dirty with animal waste lying on the floor and left for days on end, to monkeys being left dead in heaps with nothing being done to stop any contaminations crossing to the live animals, lack of food, primate babies left without care or supervision, water is not clear but putrid, broken cages, animals dying within days of them arriving at monkey town as of the lack of care being given to them.. this is still happening and we know it is.
We the International Animal Rescue Foundation www.international-animalrescue-foundation.org.uk want this addressed now or the zoo shut down, and the animals then transferred to a caring game reserve and or park.
The abuse, neglect, bad management was first documented at monkey town in early 2000 but sadly the warnings given to the owners to cut this out have not been rectified even with a film crew documenting on the case the whole centre was then left and again gave up on, there are many you tube videos on monkey town that are eye watering and have emotion to that shows you what actually has been happening and indeed we know it is still happening.

We shall be in touch with the owners of Monkey Town to hear what they are going to improve, if there is not any improvement then we shall continue to lobby the SPCA & S/African Government to shut this zoo down or enforce much much tougher penalties on those who do not care
