Re-authorize the Ryan White Act: Urgent! Deadline Extended
- by: Care2
- recipient: U.S. Congress
Ryan White, an Indiana teenager with hemophilia who contracted AIDS through a blood transfusion, courageously fought widespread AIDS-related discrimination before his death in 1990. Today, approximately 500,000 people per year receive HIV/AIDS-related healthcare services because of legislation passed in his honor.
The Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act is the largest federally funded program for people living with HIV/AIDS. And because it funds treatments when no other resources are available, it is particularly vital to low-income, uninsured and under-insured HIV/AIDS patients.
The Ryan White Act has been re-authorized under both the Clinton and Bush Administrations. Urgent: the deadline to ensure that it is re-authorized under the Obama Administration has been extended to October 30.
Demand that your elected Congresspersons re-authorize this important bill!
