WHEEZER NEEDS OUR HELP because wildlife officials want to kill him. Two years ago, a mother deer was killed on the highway. I picked up her newborn baby, nursed him and saved his life. Wheezer has been a part of my life since that day. He is no longer a wild animal and cannot be returned to the wild.
On Tuesday, August 27, 2015, officers with the Ohio Division of Natural Resources (ODNR) showed up at my house. They want to kill Wheezer. This deer is harmless and he is a pet now. They have threatened to arrest me if I don't give them Wheezer. #SaveWheezer
PEOPLE CAN OWN DEER AND BREED THEM. PEOPLE CAN FENCE THEM IN AND HUNT THEM. BUT… IT IS ILLEGAL IN OHIO TO SAVE AND PROVIDE SANCTUARY FOR AN ORPHANED OR INJURED DEER. This is wrong. Wheezer need not lose his life!
HB 267 has been introduced, but it has not been assigned to a committee. This bill will allow sanctuary care for orphaned and injured deer. However, we must be the voice for animals like Wheezer now! The only policy there is right now dictates that he die! This is wrong and we must fight to stop it.
