It's been less than a year since the fall of Roe v. Wade, but we're already seeing the horrifying consequences. A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association estimates that in just the state of Texas alone, some 26,000 rape-caused births have occurred.
When confronted about this awful reality, Governor Abbott claimed that "Texas will work tirelessly to make sure that we eliminate all rapists from the streets," which is an obscenely unserious response to a crisis created by Abbott himself and his radical cronies in the state legislature with their draconian abortion laws.

There's only one way to stop this — which is repealing the GOP's abortion bans and allowing sexual assault victims to access abortion healthcare, full stop.
Only 5 of the 14 states that have banned abortion allow exceptions for rape, and in those states, only 10 or fewer monthly abortions have been allowed to proceed. That low number highlights just how difficult the GOP has made it for rape victims to access abortion care.
Nobody should have to live with a permanent reminder of the horrifying crime committed against them if they don't want to. It's basic human decency — something that seems to be in short supply in GOP politics.
