I fell upon an online article from the Dallas Observer by Eric Nicholson which unbelievably report that the Dallas Safari Club intend to sponsor the hunt and kill of a rare Namibian Black Rhino...one of only 1800 left in Namibia and whose government has approved as well as our own U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
The event takes place in January and has the possibility of bringing in $750,000. Ben Carter, the director of the Dallas Safari Club, claims to be committed to saving the black rhino and insisted the money will be donated back to the Conservation Trust Fund for Namibia's Black Rhino. The article stated, even more disturbing to learn is this kind of event is an annual one. Given their are less than 2000 of the rare animal in that country, this seems very contradictory, senseless and obviously cruel.
It is bad enough that paid poachers kill for the horn's imaginary medicinal properties, but what is far worse is that the thoughtless pay for sport hunting resulting in yet one more dead endangered animal just so they can hang the decapitated head on their wall only to puff about it over cocktails. Deplorable and shameful. I urge you to sign this petition and pass it on imploring President Pohamba to rethink and change what Namibia's government has set in motion and put a halt to this action.
