Her name is Emilie.
Emilie is only one of over 30,000 people who have died this year in the US as a result of gun violence.
Emilie is not just a statistic. Emilie was someone's child. Emilie was someone's friend, and now Emilie is gone.
We cannot stand by and helplessly allow this to continue.
Please sign our petition to make laws that:
1) Ban Assault and Semiautomatic Weapons in the US
2) Establish a Mandatory 2 week waiting Period before Firearm purchase
3) Require more Stringent Background Checks for All Firearm Permits
4) Initiate a Mandatory Firearm Safety Course for all Firearm Owners
We are not trying to ban all guns, only to strengthen our gun control laws in order to decrease the incidence of gun use in accidental shootings, suicide, and the mass murder of innocents.
According to the CDC:
63,510 people were injured or killed in the U.S. by firearms in 2011, of those 31,347 people died
This is the 19th mass killing of greater than 4 people in the last five years. Of those, nearly all involved an assault or semiautomatic weapon
Accidental death from firearms rose from 606 in 2010 to 851 in 2011
Firearm related deaths from suicide rose from 18,735 in 2009 to 19,392 in 2010 to 19,766 in 2011
Firearm related Homicide rose from 11,078 in 2010 to 11,101 in 2011
