Help end the wait for a cure-get Waiting on a Cure on Ellen

A lot of people don't realize how serious diabetes is, but it is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States.  We created our site, "Waiting On a Cure" in November of 2007 after being inspired by not only individuals close to us, but Nicholas Jonas from the Jonas Brothers.  We have been working diligently to raise awareness and donations (as of March 31, 2008 we have raised $1,265).  We have been trying since day one to let the Jonas Brothers know about our cause, but have had no luck.

Please sign this petition so that we can get Nick, as well as his brothers, on Ellen's show in November (around World Diabetes Day) to discuss his dealing with the disease, as well as make our cause known to millions of people.

With the help of the millions of Ellen viewers, diabetes awareness advocates, Jonas Brothers fans, and the Jonas Brothers themselves, we can take one step closer towards finding a cure.

On December 8, 2007, Kristin Morales and Tori Russell created their site %u201CWaiting On a Cure%u201D, a diabetes awareness site inspired by Nicholas Jonas, from the Jonas Brothers.  After working diligently and completing a scrapbook project for the band, Tori and Kristin decided that they wanted to keep their interest in doing projects or something related to the Jonas Brothers, but could not decide what to do. They could have created another fansite, adding to a list that is multiplying every day.  However, they decided to branch out and do something different.  Nicholas was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in November of 2005.  Prior to his diagnosis, Nick had created the Change for the Children Foundation and had mentioned it, alongside the topic of diabetes on the XM 20 on 20 radio show, On the Road with the Jonas Brothers in early December.  Being Jonas Brothers fans, Kristin and Tori had listened to the boys on the show every week, but the week Nick mentioned his diabetes really struck a cord within them.  This was the key to what they wanted to do after their scrapbook project.

The night after the show Tori and Kristin both searched around the internet for more information about Nicholas%u2019 foundation, and came up with nothing.  A few weeks prior, a YouTube video had been released of a brand new song, which originally fans had coined %u201CYou Don%u2019t Even Know%u201D and was later learned to be titled %u201CA Little Bit Longer%u201D; the song was written about Nick%u2019s struggle with diabetes.  On the show, Nick discussed his diabetes and how he wanted fans to message them on MySpace with their diabetes stories or simply how they wanted to help. This, along with the song, inspired the girls to create %u201CWaiting On a Cure.%u201D  It was a late night chat and tons of views of the Youtube video that inspired Kristin with the name of the site, and the bouncing of ideas off each other that the girls created their site.  The site was created because at the time, there was not a website for Nick%u2019s foundation (as of March 2008, there is now a site for the Jonas Brothers Change for the Children Foundation).

The site started as a free one, Kristin and Tori just couldn%u2019t wait to get something started.  Immediately, they began promoting their site on online communities and even messaged the boys multiple times a day to tell them about their cause.  Since then, %u201CWaiting On a Cure%u201D has progressed greatly.  What started off as just a great idea between two fans has flourished into a site which is promoting awareness of a disease (which is not thought of to be very serious) for not only Jonas Brothers fans, but anyone interested in learning more.

The night in which %u201CWaiting On a Cure%u201D was created, the girls immediately began bouncing donation campaign ideas off each other.  Since then, the girls have used their own money to buy a domain, www.waitingonacure.com, open a CafePress merchandise site (www.cafepress.com/waitingonacure) in which all the proceeds from sales go directly to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which focuses on children with Type 1 diabetes.  Tori and Kristin even bought tickets to the boys%u2019 sold out %u201CLook Me In The Eyes Tour%u201D and auctioned them off on Ebay, donating all of the proceeds. As of March 2008, the girls began their Picks for a Cure donation campaign.  The girls wanted to sell something that lots of people would be interested in buying, for a small price.  That is when Tori came up with the brilliant idea to sell guitar pick necklaces, having all the proceeds going directly towards JDRF.  The campaign has proved to be extremely popular, and in just 3 weeks, the girls have raised over $900 from Picks for a Cure alone.

Needless to say, Kristin and Tori have been working extremely hard on this cause, paying out of their own pockets for supplies and not keeping any of the money raised for themselves %u2013 it all gets donated.  Not only are the girls balancing busy schedules due to them both being college students, the girls are miles apart (one operating out of New York and the other from Ohio).  They still are able to work together and keep the entire cause organized.  All their hardwork has been paying off in that as of March 31, 2008, the girls have surpassed the $1000 mark in donations, raising $1,265, to be exact.

Tori and Kristin are aiming to get %u201CWaiting On a Cure%u201D on the Ellen DeGeneres show on November 14th, 2008.  This day marks World Diabetes Day and it would be the perfect opportunity to discuss the cause on the show, and potentially get the opportunity to inform the boys about it as well. The girls have been working so hard since December, from promoting their site on the internet and in their communities, to trying to spread the word to the Jonas Brothers, themselves. They have not been very successful with the latter.  Kristin and Tori have emailed what seems like every single person in contact with the Jonas Brothers to no avail, even calling Hollywood Records and failing to get a response.  They even listened to radio stations and entered contests all over just to try for a chance to win a meet and greet to get even 2 minutes with the boys to discuss their cause.  So far the only progress made was Kristin delivering, via an individual from the Jonas team at a recent concert, three %u201CWaiting On a Cure%u201D t-shirts and pick necklaces (including ones for their parents and younger brother) that Kristin and Tori had personally made for the boys.  Other than that, the girls have yet to make any progress in contacting the band.

%u201CWaiting On a Cure%u201D goes beyond Nicholas and his brothers, it reaches out to every single person who has unfortunately been afflicted by this disease (it is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States) and Tori and Kristin want to be able to use their cause and hopefully the Jonas Brothers (who are gaining popularity every single day) to be able to promote a cause that they are so passionate about.  While neither Tori nor Kristin have diabetes, both do have individuals close to them affected by the disease and would love to be able to raise as much awareness and as much money towards research for finding a cure.

So please sign this petition to assist the girls in getting their cause on the Ellen DeGeneres show on November 14th, 2008, to discuss their cause. It is one step closer to helping find a cure.
