Save CJAM!
CJAM 91.5FM, the University of Windsor's campus community radio station for over 25 years, is under threat of being overpowered by a private American broadcaster.
The FCC (the regulatory body that governs communications media in America) has already granted a license to a radio network, called SmileFM, to broadcast on 91.5FM, effectively muscling CJAM out of a spot that it has held since 1983.
Don't take this news sitting down! Let the CRTC know that you want protected status for CJAM at a new frequency so this won't be allowed to happen again!
We, the undersigned, want you, the CRTC, to grant CJAM a new license to broadcast at 99.1FM in Windsor/Detroit along with protected status so that this kind of scenario is kept from happening again. The CRTC was founded in part due to turf wars over frequencies between American and Canadian radio stations, and a turf war is what we are seeing take place in this border city.
We want CJAM to stay on the air, and as it stands you have the ability to guarantee that our campus-community radio station will remain on the air for many years to come, guaranteeing that University of Windsor students and members of the community can continue to tune into their only independent voice on the radio, CJAM.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
