Butterfly World has a huge ecological significance to our environment and it is being shut down. Not only is it the country's only butterfly study centre of its kind, it is also a wonderful jewel in the heart of Hertfordshire.
Schools and families alike use Butterfly World to educate their children, our future generation, on the importance of looking after the environment and our World!
Two thirds of the UK's native butterflies are in decline due to habitat loss. 28 different British species have been recorded at Butterfly World, making it one of the best butterfly sites in the district. The arrival of the Small Blue at Butterfly World, once considered extinct in the area, is a direct result of providing a suitable habitat for the butterfly.
During the summer seasons Butterfly World employed 43 people, supported by a team of over 50 volunteers who worked in the gardens, as tour guides, photographers and more. Employees have already been made redundant.
Butterfly World closed for the winter on 8 November and it has just been announced it will not re-open without new outside investment. Please help save Butterfly World by signing this petition to owners J Breheny construction.
Other funding to keep the centre running must be found - perhaps from conservation charities or from Government environmental budgets.
