Re: Elephant Prasad owned by Sree Sundareswara Temple, Kannur, Kerala requires urgent rescue and medical intervention.
Dear Sirs,
I am writing to you with regard to Prasad the elephant who requires urgent rescuing and medical attention. He presents with a swollen lower abdomen and genitalia, and is tethered in an unhygienic area. The photographer was able to establish that Prasad has putrid smelling pus coming from his trunk. We have been informed that the Forest Dept are aware of the situation and that they did make contact with the Secretary of the Temple, yet we can see from the photographs taken today that nothing has changed to help Prasad. Please see the below photographic evidence. Social media claims that 2 vets examined Prasad approximately a fortnight ago. The vets were Dr. Ramesh and Dr. Padmarajan. The vets stated in their report that Prasad should be examined by expert vets from the vet colleges or elephant experts on Govt Service or by forest vets. To date The Temple has not done this.
I therefore request that the Flying Squad Forest Dept Division is deployed to the Temple and that they seize Prasad and take him for urgent medical attention. We also request that the Forest Dept file legal charges against the Temple, because the Temple is in breach of the Prevention of Cruelty Act 1960.
Please will you keep me updated regarding this matter.
Yours sincerely
