Act Now to Support Florida Patients by Reducing Barriers to Health Care

Florida patients, particularly those living with chronic conditions, are facing barriers to lifesaving medications. Many Floridians need consistent and reliable access to the treatments they need to manage symptoms and control their illness but are being confronted with insurance barriers that are blocking access and interfering between the patient and physician relationship.

Pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) are middlemen between health insurers and pharmaceutical manufacturers. They decide which therapies health plans cover and assign restrictions and out-of- pocket costs for insured consumers. Often, PBM decisions are based not on the best interest of Florida patients, but on what's best for health plans in the name of cost containment. The result? Florida patients are struggling to access and afford their medications while PBMS drive up costs and improve their bottom line at the expense of vulnerable patients.

Help us support Florida patients by reducing barriers to health care.

Florida lawmakers should prioritize reforming a system that continues to allow health insurance companies and PBMs to profit off Florida patients. Join us today and send a letter to your lawmakers, urging them to increase transparency into PBMs and ensure patients can access and afford the care they need.
Dear Representative,

Pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), or middlemen working between health insurers and pharmaceutical manufacturers, are driving up prescription drug costs for Florida patients, particularly for those living with chronic conditions.

PBMs decide which therapies health plans cover and assign restrictions and out-of-pocket costs for insured consumers, but are pocketing negotiated discounts and rebates they receive from pharmaceutical manufacturers. The result? Floridians are struggling to access and afford their medications while PBMS increase up costs to improve their bottom line at the expense of vulnerable patients. When a patient's share of prescription costs becomes too high, it increases the likelihood of skipping treatments, leading to even higher medical costs down the road, in the form of hospitalizations, ER visits, or long-term health issues.

As your constituent, I urge you to support legislation that will increase transparency into pharmacy middlemen who are driving up costs for patients. Since 2017, 46 states have implemented 90 laws regulating PBMs. It's time for Florida to take action too.

Thank you,
