Demand the U.K. government acts to prevent innocent pensioners facing corrupt charges and prison time in Thailand
Subject: Urgent: British Pensioners Beaten, Framed & Facing Thai Prison in less than 2 weeks time!
Date: 26 February 2025
Dear Sir/Madam,
We urgently seek your intervention in the deeply troubling case of British pensioners Desmond and Mary Byrne, aged 77 and 69, who were brutally attacked by their neighbours in a Thai retirement village on December 19th 2023.
Despite overwhelming and irrefutable evidence—including clear CCTV footage—the perpetrators have received only minimal punishment, while the Byrnes now face unjust criminal charges and the terrifying prospect of imprisonment. Without urgent intervention, Mary and Des could be imprisoned as early as March 12, 2025
The attackers, Charles and Nicha Jerrom, both in their forties and trained Thai kickboxers, initiated a prolonged campaign of harassment that culminated in a savage and unprovoked assault. Mary Byrne suffered life-threatening injuries as a result. Despite numerous pleas to local authorities, the Byrnes have been systematically denied justice. Meanwhile, the Jerroms, with the assistance of a corrupt prosecutor, have managed to press countercharges, falsely framing the incident as a mutual altercation. As a consequence, the Byrnes’ passports have been confiscated, preventing them from accessing urgent medical care or returning to the UK.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has failed to take decisive action, allowing this gross miscarriage of justice to persist unchecked. Time is of the essence, and we implore the UK government to intervene immediately to secure the Byrnes' safe return before they are subjected to Thailand’s inhumane and life-threatening prison conditions.
We urge you to escalate this urgent matter to those with the power to act:
● Foreign Secretary David Lammy MP
● UK Ambassador to Thailand, Mark Gooding OBE
● Catherine West MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Indo-Pacific)
This case represents a blatant violation of justice, and continued inaction could have dire, even fatal, consequences for the Byrnes. Supporting evidence—including unedited CCTV footage, photographs, and witness testimonies—is readily available. We call upon you to act now to prevent further injustice and tragedy.
Sincerely,
Please sign, and send to your MP adding your postal address and post code - something all MPs insist on to prove you’re a constituent.
