BP, Stop Whining and Pay Up!

Having caused one of the worst man-made disasters in history, BP has a lot of nerve now crying over its spilled oil.

BP’s recent dispute with the U.S. over the size of the spill and its liability under the Clean Water Act is particularly outrageous, considering the spin its CEO put on the spill in 2010, claiming the size was "relatively tiny" compared with the "very big ocean” and estimating the environmental impact would be "very very modest."

More cause for outrage comes from the fact that this explosion - that killed 11 humans and countless wildlife, soiling sensitive tidal estuaries and beaches and closing vast areas to commercial fishing - cost BP, in daily clean-up costs, about $50 million LESS per day than its profits.

Furthermore, BP has just been spared billions by harmed businesses and individuals agreeing to settle for much less than what BP set aside to pay such claims.

Tell BP to Stop Whining and Pay UP!

We, the undersigned, are outraged to read of  your recent dispute over the size of the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill.

Considering the scope of this disaster, along with your company’s various attempts to downplay, cover-up and avoid taking responsibility for its enormous cost to humans, wildlife and the environment - which we consider to be a huge ocean of negative consequences, compared to the “relatively tiny” impact on your “very big ocean” of profits - we don’t want to hear of you complaining about any fines imposed upon you now by the Clean Water Act.

We request that, once and for all, you stop trying to downplay the negative impact of this horrible tragedy. In other words, stop whining, and pay up!

Thank you for your attention to this request.
