Australia is about to make a horrible mistake: placing a nuclear dumping site near aboriginal Adnyamathanha territory. While the decision hasn't been finalized, the Wallerberdina Station (a cattle station) near Barndioota is the only nominee left, so the location seems inevitable.
The Adnyamathanha community is vehemently against the nuclear dumping site, especially because it's been largely excluded from the decision-making process. “This is our land, we have been here forever and we will always be here and we are totally opposed to this dump,” says Vince Coulthard, the Adnyamathanha Traditional Lands Association (ATLA) chief executive, to The Guardian. Coulthard also likens the project to "cultural genocide." And when Regina McKenzi, an Adnyamathanha woman, learned about the proposed dumping area coming to her ancestral lands, she told The Guardian that she felt like she was "getting news of a death."
