'Natural Gas' Was a Marketing Ploy that Hurt Our Planet. Now States Are Taking a Stand for the Environment.

So-called "natural gas" is just another fossil fuel, releasing potent greenhouse gasses, meaning it's harming our planet and pushing our Earth further and further into climate change.

The gas industry has spent decades using marketing to convince the general public that it's somehow greener and cleaner than other fossil fuels. Similar to the "clean coal" campaign, dirty energy lobbyists have worked hard to make us believe gas is a better alternative to other fossil-based energy supplies. But that was all just a marketing gimmick.

That's why it's so exciting to learn that Massachusetts is working to reduce the use of natural gas, and replace it with electric energy! Other states are considering the same move - and they should follow suit now.

Gas is primarily composed of methane, a greenhouse gas that is more damaging to the climate and more powerful than carbon dioxide. In fact, research suggests methane is contributing to 30% of the world's increase in global temperatures!

On top of that, most gas is extracted from the ground using the toxic, destructive process known as "fracking," which involves the use of dangerous chemicals that can even poison local drinking water.

For far too long, state and federal regulators have let the dirty energy corporations win, putting our Earth and humanity's future at risk. Data from 2023 is showing it has already become the overall hottest year on record, with no evidence that the planet is cooling back down.

Luckily, 11 more states and Washington, D.C. are considering following Massachusetts's move to phase out natural gas. Massachusetts has already made history, but it can't save the planet alone. With the help of these states, the U.S. could finally start to get on the right track to reducing our carbon and methane footprints.

Regulators in California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Washington must do the right thing and stand up for green energy by shutting down toxic "natural" gas! Sign the petition now!
