HR 875: The End Of Organic Farming? Tuesday, March 17, 2009
Many small farmers and organic food activists are claiming that if H.R. 875 is passed, it will mean the end of organic farming in the United States.
H.R. 875 was introduced by Democrat Rosa DeLauro in February. Her introduction of this bill represents a stunning conflict of interest, because her husband, Stanley Greenburg, works for Monsanto. Monsanto is the world's biggest producer of herbicides and genetically engineered seeds, and they would GREATLY benefit if thousands of small organic farmers were put out of business, because organic farmers don't use Monsanto products.
H.R. 875 is called the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 and you can find the full text of the bill here:

We The Undersigned are in total opposition of the new Bill HR 875 and S 425 that will OUTLAW ORGANIC FARMING and heirloom seeds, requiring organic farms to use specific fertilizers and POISONOUS insect sprays and specific seeds that would be dictated by the newly formed agency, including back yard gardens that grow food only for family use. We want the right to continue growing and buying heirloom produce as our right as Americans. If this passes there will be no more heirloom clean seeds, but only Monsanto genetically altered seeds that are now showing up to cause UNEXPECTED DISEASES in humans! We are against this bill as we don't believe that our government should be dictating the type of seeds we use in our gardens and the gardens of Americas farmers. The government should not be allowed to search and sieze properties that have small organic farm production.
We have over 1000 signatures against this bill and there are many more in opposition. Please consider our comments and our position. Thank you for your time and consideration.
