The Irrawaddy dolphin is one of the most endangered species in the world but a new survey has revealed that one key population could be at the very edge of extinction.
SOURCE: http://www.treehugger.com/natural-sciences/only-85-irrawaddy-dolphins-are-left-in-the-mekong-river-according-to-a-new-study.htmlConservation group WWF is calling for urgent action to prevent the extinction of freshwater dolphins in the Mekong River, estimating 85 Irrawaddy dolphins left in Cambodia and Laos. The Mekong River Irrawaddy dolphin has been listed as critically endangered since 2004.
Habitat destruction, low calf survival rates, and fishing net entanglements are the biggest threats.
We ask that you reconsider your fishing methods and ban net fishing in the Mekong River that the Irrawaddy dolphin have a chance at survival.
