Protect Citizen and Human Rights in the Philippines
The Philippines, a country with a long history of sustaining democracy, justice, and the value of every person. Such principles require huge commitment to the defense of human rights. We believe that a country can genuinely achieve peace, stability, and development if they respects and upholds human rights among its people.
As a student and citizen of our country, we urge the Philippine government to act with urgency and determination to protect and uphold the rights of all people dwelling on its shores. Violations against human rights have alarmingly increased during the last years in such an extent that this undermines the confidence of public opinion that are protected through our Constitution and International Human Rights treaties joined by the Philippines.
1.Take an action to the extrajudicial killings and strengthen due process.
-We call on the government to take concrete steps to ensure that law enforcement agencies respect the rule of law, follow due process, and bring the law enforcers of illegal killings to account. We demand an end to extrajudicial killings and other abuses associated with operations against criminal activity, such as the so-called "war on drugs." And bring the justice to those family that mourn due to the false accusation by the authorities.
2. Protect rights of indigenous and vulnerable groups to life, liberty, and security.
-The government ought to protect the rights of the indigenous tribes and vulnerable groups that are targeted to receive violence, land grabbing, and eviction. Beside the protection of these indigenous people from being exploited through the governmental and business ventures, the government should, however protect their rights as pertains to the use of the land, determination and the culture heritage.
3.Strengthen the Commission on Human Rights' Independence
-As the government have an agency (Commission on Human Rights) that have a goal "primary function of investigating all forms of human rights violations involving civil and political rights in the Philippines." Ensure the protection and defense of the independence of the Commission on Human Rights to secure and promote human rights. This includes having them greatly funded, aided, and independent to examine allegations of human rights violations and put the rights to the victims.
