Save our Peacemaker! Principal Nathan Glockle- Laura MacArthur Elementary Please come and help our students at Laura MacArthur keep their Peacemaker, Principal Nathan Glockle. We need your voice to make this happen. There is a school board meeting June 20, 2017 at 6:30 PM. You can also show your support by emailing and calling the super intendant. The Homecroft and Lakewood Elementary Schools in Duluth were also in jeopardy of losing their principals. However, the students and supporters in favor of keeping their principals raised their voices and were heard. Their principals have been retained. Their students have been given the opportunity to keep and grow their educational stability. We want this for our students at Laura MacArthur. We believe that Principal Nathan Glockle; our Peacemaker provides that education stability to our students and staff. He has demonstrated over the last six years that educational success is possible at Laura MacArthur Elementary School. Our students have shown a “steady and significant increase in proficiency” under the leadership of Nathan Glockle, ISD 709 Newsletter 8/11/2015. We understand change is scary. Therefore, we must examine our own motives. Why do we want Nathan Glockle as our Principal? Are we fighting change or are we fighting for our students and their educational stability? We believe that we are fighting for our students and their educational stability. “It’s our expectation and mission to ensure that every student has the ability to realize their highest potential” – ISD 709 News 8/11/2015. This is our fight. We believe that our Peacemaker Principal Nathan Glockle helps our students achieve their highest potential. Please join us on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 6:30PM. We need the support of our community to continue our educational stability with our Peacemaker Principal Nathan Glockle.
It has come to our attention that Superintendent Gronseth has reassigned our principal, Nathan Glockle, to another school for next school year. This was a surprise to all including Nathan Glockle. As many of you are aware, not many years ago Laura MacArthur was labeled a priority school. Nathan Glockle stepped into the position of principal the December before our school received this label. He jumped in with an open honest approach and made big changes at Laura MacArthur. It didn't take long for our community to start seeing the improvements in our students and our school. Laura MacArthur, lead by Principal Nathan Glockle became a reward school by the next year. Our students, families, staff and community know and trust Nathan Glockle.
We understand that decisions are made for all kinds of reasons. All that was stated in the e-mail staff received about the principal changes next year was a generalized statement about "matching specific school needs with skill levels and experience and to provide principals with new challenges and a chance to take on new duties, among other things." In a recent article in the Duluth News Tribune it was stated the changes were due to the budget. THis does not make sence because our school and rhw school our principal will be reassigned to will both continue to have a full time principal. We CAN make a difference and influence decision making at this level however.
I strongly urge you to reach out to the superintendent and let him know that Laura MacArthur needs and deserves to have consistent leadership. We need to have one, loud unified voice. Let Superintendent Gronseth know that Laura MacArthur will not sit idly by and let this change happen to us. We deserve more and it's up to us to make sure that happens. As always, please be respectful in all communications. Take a moment right now to call or e-mail and let Superintendent Gronseth know, we as the Laura MacArthur community protest this decision.
