Horses, goats, sheep, steer, and others left in small enclosures with no shade or shelter in Riverside County, CA where the weather is 100 to 117° F for days and weeks at a time. Demand that these animals and other farm and domesticated animals receive immediate shelters, that laws be made and implemented immediately requiring that shade and shelter is mandatory for farm and domesticated animals or increasing fines be imposed to owners who are non-compliant, that absence of shade and shelter to all farm and domesticated animals be defined in our law as animal abuse and that owners be held accountable criminally.
Currently there are no laws in the state of California requiring that farm animals be provided with shade or shelter.
We live in the dessert in Southern CA where the weather is regularly 100 - 117° F for a good majority of the spring, summer, and autumn. The fact that CA is in a severe drought makes it that much worse.
I drive by this property regularly where horses, goats, sheep, steer, and others left in small enclosures with no shade or shelter.
I have called the animal control and the local government and currently there are no regulations on providing these animals with much needed shade and shelter.
I cannot fathom what it must be like to be confined to a small enclosure under the extreme scorching sun that we have with no shade available. This is clearly abuse.
Every farm animal should be provided with shade and shelter from all of the elements. If we confine an animal whereby they cannot fend for themselves then we must be responsible in providing for their needs, these being most basic.
Also, I've now started a GoFundMe Campaign to provide shelters to these specific animals pictured above. Together we can give them some reprieve from the harsh elements and make their lives more comfortable and humane. This is the link to the funding page:
