ABUSING A COMPANION ANIMAL FOR 4 YEARS SHOULD COST MORE THAN $25!
This petiton is targeted towards Chief of Police, Mayor, and Middletown City Council Members, who will be sent all your signatures and comments via postal and e-mail. I am asking them to look into the judgement and fine, as well as existing animal welfare laws, penalties and fines.
As noted in multiple news sources (below), Jeremy Shane Temple was only fined $25 for leaving his dog outside, chained to a tree. Now named Joseph, he suffered serious abuse, horrible flea infestations, and a lack of adequate food, water and shelter.
Please join me in urging the powers that be in Middletown to look into the judgement and fine, as well as existing animal welfare laws, penalties and fines.
PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE WIDELY, THIS KIND OF ABUSE SHOULD BE MET WITH SERIOUS PENALTIES!!!
Dear [name],
We, the undersigned, urge you in your position as [mayor, chief of police, council member] to investigate the seriously flawed judgement against Jeremy Shane Temple of only $25 for his egregious 4 year long abuse and neglect of his dog, now named Joseph. This poor dog was infested with fleas, seriously malnourished, chained to a tree and abused by Temple.
This pitance of a penalty sets a horrible example, and came no where near the costs of rescuing/treating Joseph, police investigation, and the judicial process. Middletown lost money and set a dangerous precedent with this judgement.
We also urge you to revise your policies regarding animal abuse, and update them to today's standards of punishment for animal cruelty, as well as raising fines to cover the costs of the rescue, investigation and judicial process.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
