Oppose the Farm Bill Amendment
An essential piece of legislation expired on September 30th, 2012- but could be reintroduced in the 2014-14 session of Congress. Shortly before the Farm Bill passed, (Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2012) the House Committee on Agriculture added an amendment.
The amendment, "Protect Interstate Commerce Act" was introduced by Representative Steve King at the last minute.
The provision would prevent states from enacting any legislation to regulate the production or marketing of goods made in other states, including environmental measures or product safety requirements, and not just those concerning animal welfare.
For example- even though there is a ban on production and sale of foie gais in California, businesses in California could buy and sell it if it was manufactured in New York.
Please contact your Senators and ask that they OPPOSES the passage of any Farm Bill legislation with the King amendment.
