Massachussetts Petition For Parking For Scooters and Motorcycles

Currently, there are very few options for legally parking motorcycles and scooters over 50cc (which require registration and a license plate) in the City of Boston. Commuting on these vehicles is an excellent way to support the environment and reduce our dependancy on foreign oil.
These vehicle have few if any viable options. By law they cannot be parked on the sidewalk and most of the parking garages do not permit motorcycles or scooters. The few garages that do allow these vehicles typically charge the same rate that they charge for a car, which is absurd. Parking at meters is also not an option as they typically have a 2 hour limit and the new prepaid meter stations require you to display the receipt on the inside window of your car. There is no secure way to display the receipt on a motorcycle or scooter. Additionally drivers of car's resent a motorcycle of scooter taking up a street space intended for a car.
Other cities have effectively solve for this issue. The best example is San Francisco which provides both motor cycle stalls and meters. Where a meter for a car costs between $1.50-$3.00 per hour, the rates for a motorcycle are between $0.10 and $0.25 per hour. See the link below

In signing this petition you are supporting our effort to request that Mayor Menino and Governor Patrick Duval help solve for this issue. Probably the least complicated and expensive solution is for the city to offer permits for motorcycles and scooters to park on the street in any legal parking spot, city owed parking lots or in areas specially designated for these vehicles. These permits could include a sticker to be adhered to the vehicle and could be a revenue producer for the city. This is just one option and we could work with the city to come up with other viable solutions.
But the first step is to highlight the fact that this is an issue and there are sufficient numbers of individuals who would benefit from solving for it.
