Sign on to tell EU Parliament: Network fees hurt internet users
Currently, the European Union is considering a proposal imposing fees on EU internet platforms in such a way that effectively allows telecom companies to discriminate among network users based on their level of data traffic.
Not only does this run directly afoul to the values behind the EU's regulation on net neutrality which, since its adoption in 2015, has ensured internet users in Europe have access to a free and open internet without the interference of service providers – the proposal runs the risk of leaving consumers at risk of higher prices, slower speeds, and the restriction of available content online.
The proposal essentially asks that ISPs be paid twice for the same provided services, once by online platforms and once by the households paying for internet services.
We have to send a clear message to the EU Parliament that we stand against network fees.
