The Barwon River is about to lose 15 grand old Elm & Ash trees!
Unless we do something about it!
We ask that CCMA openly disclose, discuss and consult with the community and hear what we have to say about the plan. We ask that the trees be respected and valued for their age and community value.
> Article: The Geelong Times' article on 18th July 2012
> The row of 15 community valued, admired and healthy Ash & Elm trees are scheduled to be cut down.
> Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CCMA) describes them as "environmental weeds" and plans to remove them in August 2012.
> These historical and old trees are a valuable asset to our community. They deserve to be respected and admired for generations to come.
> We ask that Corangamite Catchment Management Authority, at the very least, consider removing the trees gradually over 10 - 15 years to allow replacement natives to mature.
> We ask that Corangamite Catchment Management Authority allow the community to have a say on such a significant plan. We are shocked that people who live in the immediate area don't know about the plan to remove these significant trees which are highly valued and admired by the community.
To lose these trees would be a tragedy. CCMA's plan to remove them seems out of touch with community sentiment and values.
