Altman Plants, distributors of Smart Planet drought tolerant plants, treats their stock with neonicotinoid pesticides to "protect" them from pests. Neonicotinoids are now shown to be contributing to the decline in bee populations. If Altman Plants wants to help gardeners do the right thing and convert their water thirstly landscaping into a more water wise style, they should not be employing this class of pesticide. To be truly "smart", they should be educating people on the importance of healthy soils and proper conditions to produce healthy plants that can fend of pests and disease, not killing off our bees to make their plants more convenient to consumers.
