The establishment of a liquor by the drink ordinance will enhance the competitive posture of the City of LaFayette. It will generate much needed revenues through direct taxation of liquor sales in addtion to increased sales tax revenue from increased visitation. Elimination of this prohibition will encourage growth from new business as well as allow existing businesses to survive.
Liquor by the drink has been prohibited for implied moral reasons. It is not the place of government to limit personal freedom of its people. Legislation of morals has no place in the goverment but rather should be a matter between the individual and their faith.
