SAVE OUR SLEDDING HILL

Update: this originally started as preserving a place that held a special stance in my life, my kids, and others. I've done a lot of research since this post and it's become more than just about a "sledding hill". 

The environment and ecosystem that has been thriving there for years is amazing. And truly it is a shame that the city of Longmont council has not listened to anyone about preserving that. It may be classified as undeveloped land but with that land supports are bald eagles, osprey, cranes, prairie dogs ( their food), fish, and a lot more. Not only are some of these things an endangered species. And our small space here at dry Creek is providing them a stable environment. Why is it okay to destroy that?

There's even a space for sale off of Nelson by Macy's development. And it was old farmland and it doesn't have such a stable thriving ecosystem to it. We can build there.

It would be nice to hear from you guys any other suggestions or solutions of where we can put this rec center. Besides what's already been stated. I appreciate you guys getting involved and having your voices heard!

-Original post: It has come to my attention that the Longmont City Council wants to tear down the sledding hill and disrupt our nature preserve at Orange Park, or as some refer to it the Dry Creek Community Park, across from the middle school.

They want to build a huge rec center with no pool or other accommodations. That will destroy a supportive and thriving ecosystem.

Here's what I would like to see City Council do.
Not destroy our open spaces or nature preserves
Rebuild our city.
They could build this at the old Walmart site, A.K.A the vacant lot by Hobby Lobby.
That's a huge eye sore and can use a sprucing up, it has been vacant for 13yrs
Centennial Pool is closing because of the cost of repairs. Instead of letting that facility go to waste, use it!
There are a lot of other suggestions that can be said and you should let your voice be heard. No matter your opinion, we should save this spot where we have built memories with our families and community!
All in all, where our Council sees a "dirt pile" we see sledding, mountain biking practice, frisbee golf, bird watching, outdoor walking trails, a moment of happiness during a pandemic! I don't want these things taken away now or in the future, I only want this beautiful list of living life outdoors to grow. Help me, help our community do this! The city council's next meeting is May 20th coffee with the council. They are doing in-person and virtual.
