The Family Birthing Center (FBC) at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward is at risk of closure. Alameda Health System (AHS) has announced plans to suspend all obstetric services at the FBC, effective February 18, 2025. This devastating decision will eliminate the last labor and delivery unit in Hayward, leaving families without accessible maternity care.
For decades, the FBC has been a vital resource for Hayward families, offering compassionate and expert care during one of life's most important moments. This closure would disproportionately affect the vulnerable populations in Hayward, and put the health and safety of mothers and babies at risk.
The Hayward community deserves better. By signing this petition, you join us in urging Alameda Health System to reverse the decision to suspend obstetric services at St. Rose Hospital's FBC.

PETITION LETTER
Petition to Save the Family Birthing Center at St. Rose Hospital
We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with the staff and community of Hayward to oppose Alameda Health System's (AHS) decision to suspend obstetric services at St. Rose Hospital's Family Birthing Center (FBC) effective February 18, 2025.
This decision would close the last labor and delivery unit in Hayward, forcing expectant mothers to travel over 30 minutes to facilities that are already overwhelmed. The closure disproportionately impacts underserved populations, including Medicare/Medi-Cal patients, and jeopardizes access to essential care for families in our community.
For decades, the FBC at St. Rose has been a vital resource for Hayward families, providing compassionate and expert care during one of life's most significant moments. Many members of our community, including elected officials, have personal ties to the FBC and recognize its irreplaceable value.
The staff at the FBC and the community of Hayward have been hopeful that the transition of St. Rose to AHS would result in investments to improve and expand services, not their abrupt suspension. This closure is a betrayal of the trust placed in AHS and a disservice to the community they pledged to serve.
We call on AHS leadership, local government officials, and all stakeholders to prioritize the health and well-being of Hayward families by:
