Save Moreton Bay!

The calm Blue water of Moreton Bay is South East Queensland's marine playground. It's glorious subtropical islands and shletered bays are the perfect place for swimming, sailing, windsurfing, fishing or quietly enjoying the beauty.
But our Bay is suffering! Over the last 10 years South East Queensland's waterways and Moreton Bay has been in steady decline. Every year hundreds of thousands of tonnes of sediment end up in Moreton Bay.
The 2011 floods saw close to 16million tonnes of sediment go into the Bay. This sediment comes from many sources but as most of South East Queensland is rural land a significant portion comes from these areas.
This not only affects Moreton Bay and its rich marine life, but also has a significant economic impact for communities in the upper catchments from the loss of productive soils and damage to waterways and infrastructure.
Much work has already been done to tackle the problems. Innovative ways to protect our waterways, which combine the best science with practical local solutions, already exist. What is currently lacking is the political will to invest in the Bay.
Survey after survey has shown that the people of South East Queensland want to see the Bay and the waterways which run into it protected.
Queensland Conservation is calling on the Queensland Government to commit to investing in the future of Moreton Bay and South East Queensland's Waterways by providing the funding* to stop the pollution.
*Studies by the State Government and SEQ Catchments estimate that $80M over three years is required to fund these activities.
Please help to Save Moreton Bay by taking action and signing our petition today.
I urge you to commit your party at this election to Save Moreton Bay by providing the funding* to stop the pollution.
Moreton Bay's pollution problems are well known. The solutions are well known. All that is needed is action to Save the Bay.
*Studies by the State Government and SEQ Catchments estimate that $80M over three years is required to fund these activities.
