U.S. Authorities Are Gunning Down Cattle From Helicopters

Authorities in New Mexico are planning to kill dozens of feral cattle by shooting at them from helicopters. While conservationists, local ranchers, and U.S. agencies agree that feral cattle in the Gila National Forest are threatening the environment, why do they have to be killed in such a horrific way?

This is the second year in a row that authorities are employing this horrific method of culling the animals. Over the next four days, shooters in helicopters will gun down about 150 feral cattle.

The process is as terrifying as it sounds: "helicopters cause cattle to run, forcing shooters to pepper cows with multiple rounds, some taking hours or days to die." To make things worse, ranchers worry that their own cattle will be shot if any wander too close to the culling area.

Some say that authorities aren't even addressing the root cause of the feral cattle population, like broken fences that allow cattle to wander into the Gila Wilderness. Instead, they are opting for this "quick fix" of gunning cattle down as they run away in fear. Why does the process have to be so terrifying for the poor cattle? Join us in demanding change!
