Animals Are Slowly Suffocating to Death in These Three States

A bill in Ohio preventing animal shelters from using gas chamber euthanasia on animals thankfully looks like it will pass -- but the method is it still actively used in three other states. Gas chamber euthanasia is an inhumane, painful way for animals to die, and threatens the workers who perform it. Why are we still allowing shelters to use such a horrific method in 2022?

Sign the petition to ban gas chamber euthanasia in Utah, Wyoming, and Missouri!

When shelters have to euthanize animals, it's heartbreaking -- and it should only be done as a last resort and as humanely as possible. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes for an animal to die in a gas chamber. During this time, animals are exposed to carbon monoxide without sedation, causing them pain and agony in their last moments. Meanwhile, injection is a far more humane death, causing animals to lose consciousness within three to five seconds and die within five minutes.

The merciless method also puts the workers who are euthanizing the animals at risk, potentially exposing them to carbon monoxide poisoning, not to mention emotional distress.

There is simply no need to put innocent animals through such a slow, painful death. Sign the petition to urge Utah, Wyoming, and Missouri lawmakers to ban gas chamber euthanasia in animal shelters!
