Major MIke Shipley Spay/Neuter Clinic in Cookeville, TN is a vital resource for animal welfare in Putnam County, TN and 14 Upper Cumberland Counties. In December of 2022 it was closed and all employees fired. This was a huge disservice to the innocent animals, the Putnam County Animal Shelter, and it impacted low income and disadvantaged familes that rely on a much less expensive source of healthcare for their pets. A group of animal advocates reopened the clinic in April of 2023 with the generous donation from a local donor. The clinic is currently operated under Wags & Whiskers Pet Rescue, Inc., a non profit 501c3.
Dissension, Dysfunction and Mismanagement of the Board of Directors now threatens the sustainability and possible closure of the clinic again, which has prompted a pending lawsuit filed to reorganize the Board of Directors. Matters of Conflict of Interest, Violation of Bylaws and Illegal activities are components of the litigation. This petition asks for community support to address the importance of resolving and mitigating this issue quickly and to address the gravity and the consequences of the current boards' actions that threaten having the clinic close once again. It is of upmost urgency that the current board of directors resign so a new board can be organized and create an amazing team of dedicated, extremely experienced community leaders ready to step in to deepen and broaden the impact of the spay/neuter clinic.
Spay/Neuter is the ONLY answer and solution to helping stem the tide of the pet overpopulation pandemic. It is the only viable answer to Hoarding Cases, Puppy Mills, Abuse, Abandonment, Euthanasia in over crowded shelters and the general negleact of our innocent pets.
