A 49-year-old male cab driver forcibly kissed and licked the face of and groped the breasts and genitalia of a 17-year-old female passenger and all the judge had to say is that she should be flattered since she is overweight. This is a clear example of a man in power excusing sexual assault and we can't let it happen. A child was attacked and we should do everything we can as a society to prevent this kind of thing going forward.
Sign the petition if you want the Canadian Judicial Council to deem this judge unfit to sit on the bench.
This young girl was assaulted by her cab driver. A man three times her age who had her captive. Thankfully, the man was found guilty. But that doesn't excuse this judge saying that she should be flattered by the "attention" (read: attack). The way someone looks or how much they weigh has exactly nothing to do with whether or not they deserve to be assaulted.
Not only were the judge's remarks offensive and misogynistic, but they were made by a person who has the power to rule on important cases like this. So it follows that someone with this attitude about nonconsensual advances should NOT be allowed to rule.
Sign the petition to ask the Canadian Judicial Council to rule Judge Jean-Paul Braun unfit. They did the same to another judge last year after he said that a victim should have "kept her knees closed". He resigned immediately. If enough of us show the Canadian Judicial Council that we care, they will have to take action.
