Since September 2024, a blue-and-yellow macaw has been trapped in deplorable conditions aboard a ship moored at Dordrecht, The Netherlands. Despite official complaints, inspections, and even a fine of €500 imposed on the owner for failing to meet animal welfare standards, the macaw remains in distress.
This highly intelligent and social bird is suffering severe neglect due to:
Inadequate space – confined in an unsuitable environment.
Lack of proper nutrition – risking serious health complications.
Social isolation – deprived of the companionship it needs.
Despite all this, the owner continues to claim that the living conditions are acceptable. The authorities have announced another inspection in mid-February, but we cannot wait any longer while this bird continues to suffer.
Why this matters:
Macaws are highly intelligent, emotional, and social creatures that require specialized care. Keeping them in such conditions is not just cruel—it violates basic animal welfare laws. Every day that passes without action prolongs this bird's suffering.
We demand Immediate action:
