Ask Toronto to develop humane coyote policies

Dear Toronto Police Services, and Mayor John Tory, 

I am very disappointed that on July 23rd, the police injured a coyote, instead of calling Toronto Wildlife Centre.  I would like to see an education program for the police and the public on humane wildlife handling. There should also be a full, third party, SIU type investigation every time police injure or kill an animal.

I would like to see better promotion toward Toronto Wildlife Centre, and faster response from Toronto Animal Services.  Toronto could better define what is a 311 or Wildlife Centre call (this incident should have been a 311 type call), or a 911 call (car accident involving human injury or death, animal posing an immediate threat to people).  

Animal Services and Toronto Wildlife Centre should be incorporated into the 911 dispatch system as first responder options when calls involving any animal require 911.

An EVS service, similar to EMS, could be run through TAS and TWC.  The SNYP truck could be experimented as an ambulance, then more EVS vehicles could be purchased through charitable donations.

Things can change.  The York Regional Police have decided to stop the practice of shooting wildlife.  Now, the City of Vaughan and other York Regional Municipalities are developing humane solutions to urban wildlife.
