FORGET 2017. Look around you & be honest - things are falling apart & out of control. We the Bahamian people don't want to wait out another 3 years of damage to our economy & our livelihoods, and 3 more years of tax hikes, corruption, abuses of power, cover-ups, secret deals, incompetence and threats to our democracy. Unemployment, higher taxes, corruption, wild gov't spending & special interests are making it almost impossible for the poor & middle class to make it. The gov't is not even paying salaries and bills on time. Cost of living is up. Taxes are up. Violent crime is up. Fear and frustration is up. Victimisation is up. Confusion, chaos & cover-ups are up - and our hopes are down. FORGET 2017 - THREE MORE YEARS FOR AN ELECTION IS TOO LONG TO RISK
FACT - THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SET FIVE-YEAR TERM FOR A GOVERNMENT IN THE BAHAMAS. This is not the United States - we do not have set terms; we only have a maximum 5-year period a government can rule - but no minimum period. Meaning, the Prime Minister can call an election today and then another one six months from now if he so chooses. That is the system we have. The Constitution (our Supreme Law) says the government can dissolve AT ANY TIME BEFORE FIVE YEARS. Governments in The Bahamas stay in for a full five years because THEY CHOOSE TO AND WANT TO, NOT BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO Constitutionally. So if at some point the people ever want early elections they certainly can demand it, because this is a democracy. In a democracy the people are the boss, not the government.
