Stop Special K's Rainforest Destruction!
A recent report by Oxfam shows that corporations like Kellogg’s have acquired over 4 million hectares of land for sugar production. Activists say the purchases are undertaken without transparency they say much of this land belongs to indigenous peoples, and it often consists of pristine Rainforests.
Once the land is obtained by Kellogg’s they lock out local people and cut down the forests to turn it into farm land.
This land grab has been linked to human rights violations in Brasil. It also destroys forests that contribute to mitigating climate change, give endangered of species refuge, protect precious waterways, and prevent many dramatic environmental impacts. It also destroys indigenous communities leaving many of them without a means to grow food and live a traditional lifestyle.
All this so Kellogg’s can put sugar on our cereals! It’s time for Kellogg’s to stop these land grabs and operate in a transparent and ethic way.
Dear Mr Bryant,
We the undersigned demand you stop your land grab projects around the world.
A recent Oxfam report shows that over the last decade over 400 million hectares of land has been purchased for sugar plantations, often under dubious circumstances. Your company is one of the main offenders and ranks as second worst in their ranking system.
The purchasing of these lands is contributing to human rights breaches, a loss of livelihoods for many villagers, and widespread environmental destruction.
We the undersigned don’t want our Special K to contribute to the destruction of forests, and communities around the world.
Please change your policies and begin an era of transparency and consideration for people affected by the actions of your company.
