My sister and I payed a visit to the Brian Boswell's circus in Centurion (opposite the Centurion mall), to check out the condition of the animals. We were appalled at finding tigers confined separately in overly small cages, unable to give one step in either direction. Having to travel long distances in those hot cages with no possibility of exercising freely, other than performing tricks to audiences, is a lifestyle that goes completely against their nature. Watching those magnificent animals staring helplessly at the outside world from those cages was heartbreaking. We also noticed two elephants standing in the veld in the hot sun with no water to drink or to spray themselves with. The lifestyle these animals are forced into is cruel and alien to their natures. The tigers need to move around freely, along with their kind without being separated, in a sanctuary along with the elephants! After explaining this to one of the employees, he stated that they make their living from these animals and that they "are shot and killed in the wild anyway". The presumed circus owner/manager told us sarcastically that we should go off and "pray for the animals". We tried to explain to them that this was a cruel form of treating animals and that they belonged in a sanctuary. One of them screamed at us to f..k off and that we should "bring on the SPCA"!
